GeoDict Material Modeling Modules
GeoDict’s material modeling modules enable you to create detailed 3D models that faithfully represent real microstructures. A comprehensive material library provides predefined parameters as a starting point, and each module is tailored to a specific material type, accounting for its unique structural characteristics.
Once the digital model is built, GeoDict’s Simulation & Prediction modules can compute physical properties such as permeability, conductivity, or mechanical strength. By varying the model parameters and comparing simulation results, you can systematically optimize material design—this is the essence of “digital material development.”
These modules cover nearly all common engineering materials, including fiber webs, granular media, foams, woven fabrics, paper, pleated filters, and lattice structures. Additional geometry editing and layer composition tools allow the construction of complex multiphase materials.
GadGeo – A “CAD” tool for microstructures, GadGeo allows direct geometry editing and generation of 3D voxel images. You can draw, erase, copy, and modify objects voxel by voxel, or import external geometries for conversion.
GrainGeo – Designed for granular and sintered materials such as powders, catalysts, or battery electrodes. GrainGeo generates particle packing with defined size distribution, shape (spheres, ellipsoids, cuboids), and spatial arrangement. Sintering effects can be simulated by applying neck growth between adjacent grains.
GridGeo – Creates periodic lattice structures, including honeycombs, foams, and custom unit cells. This module is ideal for designing lightweight structures and metamaterials with tailored mechanical or acoustic properties.
FiberGeo – Generates realistic 3D nonwoven and fiber-reinforced composite structures. Parameters include fiber diameter, orientation distribution, curvature, and volume fraction. The resulting model can be exported directly for permeability, filtration, or mechanical simulations.
FoamGeo – Models open- and closed-cell foams and sponges. You can control cell size, wall thickness, strut diameter, and anisotropy. FoamGeo is particularly useful for cushioning, insulation, and filtration applications.
LayerGeo – Composes multi-layer 3D voxel images by stacking different material layers. Each layer can be generated by other modeling modules or imported from image data, enabling the construction of complex layered composites or membrane structures.
PaperGeo – Specialized for paper and planar composite layers, accounting for cellulose fiber networks and bonding agents. It simulates the anisotropic structure of paper and predicts properties like porosity and tensile strength.
PleatGeo – Builds flat or cylindrical pleated filter media with adjustable pleat count, height, and shape. This module is essential for designing industrial filter cartridges and optimizing filter surface area.
ProcessGeo – Offers a suite of transformation tools for 3D voxel images, including cropping, scaling, erosion, dilation, and morphological operations. It is useful for post-processing generated models or cleaning segmented image data.
WeaveGeo – Generates single- and multi-layer woven structures, including plain, twill, and satin weaves. Applicable to textiles, metal wire mesh, and glass/carbon fiber fabrics, with control over yarn thickness, spacing, and crimp.
How It Works
Select the module that matches your material type, define the structural parameters (e.g., fiber diameter, grain size, cell size), generate the 3D digital model, then simulate physical properties using the Simulation & Prediction modules. Finally, iterate and optimize your material design virtually before physical prototyping. This integrated workflow accelerates R&D, reduces laboratory experiments, and provides deep insight into structure‑property relationships.
